This course is designed to fulfill the curricular objectives of the Saskatchewan Grade 8 Social Studies curriculum. It is divided into 4 units of study, each with readings, videos, and activities of their own. Within each unit, you will be asked to complete assignments, quizzes and exams. There are also a variety of links to videos, websites, and other media provided. 36 week course.
Course Information
Unit 1 – Interactions and Interdependence
What is Canadian cultural diversity? How does immigration enhance the diversity in Canada?
Time: 8 weeks
Assessment: 7 submitted assignments, 3 quizzes and 1 unit exam
Unit 2 – Dynamic Relationships
In this unit, we will uncover how Canadian identity has been shaped by relationships with the land, the treaty process, and other historical events.
Time: 9 weeks
Assessment: 8 submitted assignments, 7 quizzes and 1 unit exam
Unit 3 – Power and Authority
How is Canada governed? Who has power and authority within the country? Learn about how decisions are made in Canada and who is making those decisions.
Time: 10 weeks
Assessment: 11 submitted assignments, 6 quizzes and 1 unit exam
Unit 4 – Resources and Wealth
What is Canada's role within the world economy? How do your choices impact our world?
Time: 7 weeks
Assessment: 5 submitted assignments, 3 quizzes and 1 unit exam
