  1. End of Semester Assessments – Mandatory (8:40 am – 12:15 pm)

Grade 9 and 10 classes won’t have cumulative/comprehensive final assessments while Grade 11 and 12 classes may have final exams.  Assessments are created to be no more than 2 hours in length.

It is mandatory for Grades 9-12 students to be in their classes in the morning.  This time will be used for instruction and/or assessment (unit/midterm tests, presentations, projects, support for completing outcomes).  It is important for students to attend this class to fully prepare for their final assessments.

Classes will remain in session for the scheduled times. A tone will sound to begin and end the period. Students are to remain seated until the tone sounds.  Students should remain quiet in the classrooms and hallways during the assessment time and are encouraged to bring study/reading material to each class.  Cellphones are not permitted during the final assessment time.  If announcements need to be made on the intercom, they will be made at 12:10 pm. The tone will then sound at the end of the announcements. Students will be dismissed only after the tone sounds

  1. Supported Open Learning time – (12:15 – 1:15 pm)

The supported open learning time in the afternoon is for extra help and is intended to be a quiet time for students to study.  This is optional unless students are required to attend to receive support to complete outcomes that they may still have outstanding to earn their credit.  Students may attend any of their teachers supported learning times on any day. Teachers will be available in their regular space from 12:15 – 1:15 pm or communicate to the students where they will be located. If a student can’t find their teacher, please come to the main office.  Students who remain at school after 12:15 pm are expected to be working in a classroom as it is very distracting for those choosing to study when the halls are noisy.

3.  Access to the School during Final Assessment Week

Families are reminded that the school is closed after the supported open learning time and arrangements should be made to have students picked up by 1:15 pm.  Students not staying for the supported learning time at 12:15 pm will be asked to leave or work in a classroom.  All extracurricular activities are suspended during the final assessment week and will resume on Monday, January 27 after the period 5 assessment.

4.  Attendance

Attendance will be taken as usual during each of the periods.  Students are to be in attendance for the class (8:40 – 9:45) and assessment (10:00 – 12:15) unless previous arrangements have been made with the principal.

If you are not able to attend on the day of the final assessment due to illness, please have your parent/guardian report the absence through EDSBY or call the attendance line at 306-659-7906.   The student should also contact the teacher, so a plan can be made to complete the final assessment.

5.  Day A/B Alternating Classes

Grade 9 Phys. Ed, Band and Arts Education are Day A/B alternating classes as well as Band 10/20/30 and the corresponding classes in the upper grades. Each of these classes will be given specific instructions by their teachers regarding the plan for the final assessment days.

6.  Textbooks & Library Materials

Teachers will be advising students of the procedure for returning textbooks. Students who don’t return their textbook and/or library materials to their teacher or the library will be invoiced for the missing materials.  Students who have outstanding accounts for fees, or charges for lost and damaged texts will receive bills.

7.  Transportation

During the final assessment week, buses will operate on their normal schedule for arriving at school.  City transit has scheduled a bus for student pick up at 12:25 pm in addition to the regular schedule.

8. Cafeteria Services

During final assessment week, the cafeteria will be open in the morning for breakfast from 8:20 – 8:30 am and during the break from 9:45 am – 10:00 am.

9. Chapel

During the final assessment week, students are invited to visit the chapel anytime after 8:00 am to offer a prayer for their success.   Votive candles will be available and students are invited to light one as they make their prayer.

10.  First Semester Report Cards

Report Cards for the first semester will be made available to students and parents/caregivers through EDSBY by 4:00 pm on Wednesday, January 29th.   See the infographic at the end of the document for a reminder on how to view report cards in EDSBY.

11.  Students Not Returning

Students not returning to Bethlehem for semester two are asked to notify Student Services prior to the beginning of final assessments.

12.  Semester 2 Timetables

Timetables will not be printed.   Check semester 2 timetables on Wednesday, January 29 for the most updated version.  Students can access their Semester 2 timetables through EDSBY or My School Sask.

If you are unsuccessful in a class, the office will automatically reschedule you, if possible.  The school will

contact you if there are questions. Your teacher will connect with your parents/caregivers after finals.

14. Semester 2 Timetable Change Requests

Schedule changes will only be allowed if there is an error or omission.  Timetable changes will not be made based on a teacher, friend and/or spare requests.  Schedule changes will be made for educational reasons only and only if there is room in the class.  Please do not request a change for personal convenience or preference.

If there is an error or omission in your timetable, and your request is simply adding or removing a class, please submit your request using the link.  If your request is more complicated and you will need to discuss your request with an administrator or counsellor, please sign up in student services.  Please follow your current timetable until you have received a message through EDSBY or an email to your GSCS account from an administrator (Mrs. Bodnarchuk or Mr. Hoffman) or a counsellor (Mrs. Becker, Mr. Boechler, or Mrs. Harbidge) indicating the timetable change. The last day to request a timetable change will be Thursday, January 30.

15.   Waitlist

If you are on the waitlist for a class, the counsellors will make the timetable change and contact you.  If you haven’t been contacted by email by Thursday, January 30, your request was not able to be fulfilled.

Good luck on your assessments and looking forward to a great Semester 2!
