Celebrating Métis Culture
At St Michael Métis School of Excellence, we strive to infuse Métis culture and perspectives in everything we do. Our locally developed Métis Education Model provides us with monthly themes of Métis values and teachings that are embedded in teaching practices, lessons, and activities both in the classroom and the greater school community. We support and participate in community events that celebrate Métis culture and Michif Language. In the past few months, we have commemorated Orange Shirt Day, Métis Days with CUMFI, and Secret Path Week, commemorating the legacies of Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack. We have celebrated joining together again in the community by sharing meals with one another, making bannock with students, and enjoying time out at Eagle Creek harvesting medicine.
