November and December Jubilee Year Preparation – Indulgences

Pope Paul VI summed up the current practices of Indulgences for Catholics, “If the faithful offer indulgences by praying for the deceased, they cultivate charity in an excellent way and while raising their minds to heaven, they bring a wiser order into the things of this world.”  Another way to receive indulgences is through making charitable donations.  Here are some awesome ways that you can use your time, talent and treasure to give another person a chance to “indulge” in some happiness at Christmas.  (To volunteer for any of these – SOME WILL GET YOU CAP HOURS – please contact Mrs. Dale – wdale@gscs.ca  )

JPIInies – donate a toonie to our collection for families at Pope John Paul II elementary that need some extra help this Christmas season.  If every student brought just one toonie – we could raise 3400 dollars!!  You can also bring mitts, socks, and toques which will help children enjoy recess during winter šŸ˜ŠDonations need to be made before Dec. 10.

L’Arche Party – donate your time on Wednesday, Dec 4, from 4-8 helping at the L’arche Christmas part which is hosted by Holy Cross in our cafeteria.  Help is needed signing people in, decorating, and bringing baking for dessert.

Adopt An Elder – donate your time, talent and treasure as you receive the name of an Elder who resides at Stensrud Lodge (across McEown Street from Holy Cross).  You will learn what their hobbies and interests are so that you can provide them with a nice card and small appropriate gift for their Christmas party which is during lunch on Wednesday, Dec. 18.  Let’s have a large group of Crusaders crossing the street to bring joy to these elders on the 18th.

Regional Psychiatric Center (RPC) – In St. Paul’s letter to the Hebrews, Chapter 13, verse 3, we read, “continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.”  We have the opportunity to help the clients at the RPC enjoy some Christmas joy.  Holy Cross’s donation to the Cathedral gift is individual packages of microwave popcorn, and hot chocolate.  Donations of this treasure need to be made before Dec. 10.

Please prayerfully consider how you can contribute either your time, talent, or treasure – or ALL – this Advent, to prepare for the Jubilee year, and bring the joy of the birth of our Saviour Jesus to many lives at Christmas. God Bless You!!
