St. Anne students promote peace
Given current global events, student projects focusing on peace are increasingly relevant and offer a welcome perspective.
At an annual event sponsored and hosted by Saskatoon Nutana Rotary Club, in partnership with Meewasin Valley Authority, Grade 7 and 8 students from St. Anne Inquiry School shared what they have learned about an inspirational Nobel Peace Laureate.
This year, a peace brick was installed at Rotary Peace Park in Saskatoon to honour 1995 joint Nobel Peace Prize winners Joseph Rotblat and Pugwash Conference on Science and World Affairs. As a scientist, Rotblat worked on the Manhattan Project—the American project to create the atomic bomb. He would leave the project before its completion because he believed Germany would not be able to make an atomic bomb before the Second World War ended.
Rotblat spent decades promoting peace and nuclear disarmament, believing that science and research should serve the cause of peace, not war and conflict.
